Our Guide to mountain bike riding in and around kent!

With many more mountain bikes arriving in store here at Spiral cycles, we take a brief look at some local spots to hit up for all ages and disciplines!:

 

 

So, as some of you may or may not have noticed, we have plenty of stunning new 2017 Giant MTB’s arriving with us here in store for the season ahead. Here at Spiral cycles we’re passionate about all things cycling , in this brief blog we’re going to take a look at some great local spots and facilities, how to get there and what to expect!

 

Betteshanger country park:

Located just 45 minutes away from us here at Spiral cycles we have Betteshanger park, an old coal mine also known as Fowlmead, a great place to start for new riders, family’s or people just looking to get a feel for what the sport can offer.

Approximately 2 miles from Deal and 10 from Dover, Betteshanger park is relatively close and very accessible no matter how you plan on getting there, the local train stations Deal and sandwich are just a short ride away.  With around 10km of mountain bike trails to get stuck into, this is a perfect opportunity to kick start your new hobby or a great chance to take the family out for the day!

Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest:

Bedgebury forest in Goudhurst, Kent, is a go to place for all types of mountain bikers across the county and beyond! With around 9 miles of well maintained cycle trails and smooth paths there isn’t many disciplines that aren’t covered!

With varying terrain amongst the red and black routes in the forest the rider is able to challenge themselves, develop new skills or for the more advanced riders set a new PB! Mainly orientated around XC riding with some slightly more technical and challenging obstacles to contend with. Smooth rolling berm sections, complex rock gardens and steep climbs are all features you will come up against within the forest.

Family friendly blue routes are also available throughout the site coupled with the homely Café,  make this a great day out for all !

Getting to Bedgebury Forest will take you around 50 mins in your car from Ashford or if you’re heading by train you’ll need to travel to Etchingham station where it is a 20-30 minute cycle ride along the A21.

Perry woods:

 

Something for the more accustomed riders and adrenaline addicts. Found in Selling near Faversham, only 25 minutes away from us here at Spiral, Perry woods has a 10 mile council sanctioned XC loop through the stunning Kent countryside. However, it’s the self-made Freeride area built around a natural crater that propels its status to a must go place for all thrill-seekers!

Littered with jumps of various lengths and sizes, steep technical downhill sections, an abundance of drop offs and even a huge road gap thrown in for good measure, we’re struggling to see what’s not to love about Perry woods!

Porc:

Porc (Penshurst off-road cycling) is a prestigious privately owned mountain biking haven. Holding a variety of serious events and competitions, this is a place that delivers the full mountain biking experience. Ever changing downhill runs merging into other and jumps of all shapes and sizes keep you on your toes here all year round, unless the clay is wet to which it’ll be very hard to stay on your toes at all!

Although, mainly renowned for its well-built, diverse downhill sections and progressive dirt jumps in the sandy and forgiving quarry, PORC has much to offer including a freeride area and a small family cycling section.
